After your first night in Kathmandu, you will be doing a half day guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu at places of interest. Sometime, depending upon your flight arrival if it's late in the night we will do this tour in the afternoon instead of morning to give you a nice rest before you venture out of the Hotel in our interesting tour. The sightseeing places could be Pashupatinath, famous Hindu Temple combined with Bouddhanath, a Buddhist Shine or Kathmandu Durbar Square, famous for its old architecture and place where you can visit living goddess with Swyambhunath, commonly known as Monkey Temple. 

Early morning transfer to airport for short 30 mins flight to Lukla. Lukla is a STOL airport and regarded as one of the scariest airport to land / take off. Upon arrival at Lukla on a small twin-otter or similar aircraft with a sweeping panoramic flight, Sherpa crew waiting to welcome you. After sorting out loads, depending upon time of arrival at Lukla, either lunch at Lukla and start walk or walk in between to have lunch to reach the destination. It’s a gradual walk most of the way with view of Kusum Kangru peak. 

Because of congestion at Kathmandu airport, now a days Lukla flights are operated from Ramechap airport which is about 5-6 hours drive a way from Kathmandu. Depending upon your schedule, you can drive on day 2 after lunch to stay overnight at Ramechap or if you don’t have a free day in Kathmandu, then you will need to start very early at 3am from Kathmandu to reach Ramechap and take a flight from there. 

From Phakding after crossing the suspension bridge over the Dudh-Kosi, the trek continues passing through small village of Monjo and entering in to the Sagarmatha National Park. We will cross a second suspension bridge over the same river. From here the walk is along the winding uphill path all the way to Namche Bazaar, with magnificent view of Kwangde peak, Kusum Kangru MountEverest- Nuptse wall, Lhotse and the closer view of Taweche peak. 

Namche Bazaar; the colorful houses are situated in an amphitheater U shaped bowl. There is a magnificent spot perched on top of Namche Bazaar with breathtaking view of the surrounding snowcapped giants and the valleys way down, with an interesting museum with all kinds of information regarding the history of the Himalayas, geographic, culture, mountaineering history and existing information on flora and fauna of this region.

After breakfast, the trek starts on a wide scenic trail facing the mind-boggling views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Amadablam, Thamserku, and Kwangde-Ri peaks. From a small place of Kyanjinma, climb to Mong hill, a picturesque spot with few tea houses and lodges.

The trail from here descends downhill to Phortse-Tenga, a peaceful spot within a forested area as well as a few good lodges on the way to Gokyo Lake. Spend a brief moment here for lunch break, devouring delicious meals in one of the eateries. After lunch continue your walk upward alpine chill forest towards the gorge. From here, walk further to Dole for an overnight stay. 

From Dole with a steady climb along the side of the valley, rhododendron forest giving way to scrub juniper as altitude gains gradually. The trail climbs on a fairly level path for one hour to Lhabarma Khraka at 4,325 m and a further an hour to Luza at 4,390m. Eventually skirting around a ridge to gain our first views of Machermo village spreads out in the valley below. Arriving at Machermo on good time for the overnight halt with time for exploration. Just above the village there is a superb view encompassing Cho Oyo 8,210m and all the mountains that flank the Ngozumba Glacier.

After sleeping a night above 4,000m, its better to have an extra night so that your body is fully acclimatized before heading to Gokyo, the main highlight of this trip. Marchermo offers great views of snowcapped mountains and has option of day hikes to gain more altitude. 

Today, heading for the holy lakes at Gokyo, following a very scenic trail to Pangka 4,545m and then descend slightly following one of the glacial fed rivers which flow down the west of Ngozumba Glacier. The walk continues climbing a steep rocky incline into the ablation valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first lake, soon arriving at the second lake, then to the third lake known as Dudh Pokhari and on its east shore is the summer settlement of Gokyo at 4,760 meters. Walking by the side of the lake, the scenery is magnificent with the peak of Cho Oyo and Gyachung Kang reflected in its emerald green waters.

Morning starts with early breakfast and hiking to Gokyo Ri, one of the highlight & highest point of this trek. The views around Gokyo at 5,357m. offers breathtaking views providing a panorama of Cho Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Cholatse, Tawache and far as to Mt. Makalu in the east. A two hours climb brings you to this wonderful spot. 

Return back to Hotel and after lunch a short walk of 2-3 hours retracing the journey on the same route to start with, then turning east to descends brings to the village of Na, situated at the foot of Ngozumba Glacier. 

The trek leads to a descend opposite side of the Dudh Kosi valley to the village of Phortse. Downhill walk is straight forward following the east side of the valley providing different views of the Khumbu peaks, then reaching at Phortse. Phortse, magnificently situated village, beneath steep hills and overlooking the junction of the Dudh Kosi and Imja Khola.

After a great morning with the view of the surrounding snowcapped peaks route climbs and contours around the west side of the Imjatse Khola valley providing excellent views of Ama Dablam, the Nuptse-Lhotse wall and Everest. The trail initially has some steep drops but the paths are good. Then reaching at Pangboche for lunch, here visit the monastery. From Pangboche head downhill again towards Imjatse River, after crossing the bridge, an easy gradual walk brings you at Pangboche village. After Pangboche an hour descent leads to another bridge over the whipping fast Imjatse River. From here on back to the green vegetation and tree-lines, a short half hour gradual climb brings you at to Thyangboche for the overnight stop. Thyangboche is a wonderful spot near the Thyangboche Monastery.

An easy descend of one hour brings you at the bottom at Phungi-Tenga. From here cross the bridge over the Imjatse River. The walk from here leads uphill for half an hour, with a gradual path for a while, again the path winds up for an hour bringing you to the familiar place of Shanasha. The walk continues for another two hours on the winding scenic trail to Namche, after a break here continue the journey on the same downhill to Monjo for the overnight stop just few minutes further from the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate.

Retrace the journey back to Phakding on the easy winding downhill track following the Dudh Koshi River down streams with few short ups in between. Walk from Phakding will be very pleasant, except for the last 45 minutes climb after the last final climb, its more of a stroll leading us back to the busy village of Lukla for the last overnight stop.

The flight time to Kathmandu are schedule for morning normally, because of the wind in the afternoon. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, transfer to Hotel. Afternoon will be free for relax after the trek. 

Again on return if the flights are not operating direct to Kathmandu, take a short 15 minutes flight to Ramechap and from there you will be driving to Kathmandu with a lunch break in between concluding a wonderful trek. 

After returning from Lukla, you will have a free or contingency day in Kathmandu, which is advisable as Lukla flights are weather dependent and by any chance if the Lukla flight got cancelled or delayed, its worth to keep a free day so that you will not miss your international flight back home. 

You can do some extra sightseeing tour in Kathmandu or just relax and keep sometime free for shopping in Thamel before returning back home.
